I’ve been writing poetry most of my life, in parallel with a career as a BBC reporter and presenter. Since I became a freelance, poetry has consumed much of my time and I’ve had poems published in many magazines and anthologies. I’ve been nominated for Forward and Pushcart prizes, and Best of the Net.
My newest project is a collaboration with Stephen Paul Wren, a chemist who runs the Facebook group Molecules Unlimited, bringing together science and poetry. Together we have written about the effects of microplastic waste on humans and the environment. The book will published by Atomic Bohemian in late 2025.
I was joint winner of a Debut Collection Competition held by https://www.hedgehogpress.co.uk/ and my collection ‘Rescue Lines’ was published by Hedgehog in 2024. I was also lucky enough to be joint winner of a Chapbook competition with Dreich Press, and ‘Sticky with Miles’ came out in 2024.
I was part of Wave 17 of Iamb Poetry, a featured poet with East Ridge Review and author of a Silver Branch feature from Black Bough Poetry. One of my poems features in the ‘Anne-thology’ re-imagining Anne Hathaway, from Broken Sleep. In 2023,Nine Pens published ‘Invisible Continents’, a pamphlet of poems from me and my collaborators and friends, Jane R Rogers and Tahmina Maula.
I’ve been lucky to host Open Mics for the Women Poets’ Network, as part of the Rebecca Swift Foundation, and I’ve read my poems at the Cheltenham Poetry Festival, Letters to the Sea, Plymouth Proprietary Library, Plymouth Central Library and numerous online and in-person open mics.
I live in Plymouth with my husband, and I often write about the sea. We are sailors and year-round sea swimmers and I believe in the sea’s powers to console and strengthen us. I’m also deeply worried about damage done to its environment and wildlife.
